Liverpool have four January transfer alternatives lined up after Sofyan Amrabat 'snub'

Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of World Cup hero Sofyan Amrabat.

Liverpool may have to concentrate on their back-up transfer options in January after Sofyan Amrabat left the club out when discussing the 'top sides' chasing his signature. The prospect of a new contract with Fiorentina also reduces Jurgen Klopp's chances of success, but Express Sport takes you through four alternatives who could fulfil a similar role over the second half of the campaign...

Ismael Bennacer

It turns out Amrabat isn't the only North African holding midfielder that Liverpool have been keeping tabs on over the past few months. Reports suggest that Bennacer is on the Reds' radar and more talks have been scheduled with his representatives after the World Cup.

The Algerian was once on the books of Arsenal but he only made one senior appearance before fleeing to Serie A. Now a regular with AC Milan, the Gunners are thought to be keen on pushing for a reunion but Liverpool may have something to say about that.

Enzo Fernandez

A youngster at just 21 years old, Fernandez's star has risen incredibly quickly since he joined Benfica from River Plate during the summer. Despite switching South America for Europe, his quality still puts him a cut above many of his midfield opponents, which encouraged manager Lionel Scaloni to phase him into Argentina's starting XI at the World Cup.

Moises Caicedo

January may be the perfect time to strike for the Brighton star, who crashed out in the World Cup group stages with Ecuador. The superb performances of Argentina midfielder and his Seagulls team-mate, Alexis Mac Allister, have taken some of the limelight away from the 20-year-old who has bossed the midfield in the Premier League this term.

Whereas Brighton may have previously considered him untouchable, the right offer could convince them to part with Caicedo after the New Year. Liverpool are thought to be in the mix with Manchester United also wise to his huge potential.
