Cody Gakpo looks to have already found himself a new best friend on his very first day as a Liverpool player.
The Dutch forward was pictured joining in with yesterday’s session, as he comes into contention to face Wolves this weekend.
And, if these shots are anything to go off, he’s already striking up a good rapport with Darwin Nunez.
The two players are set to lead the Liverpool forward line into a new era over the coming years. Early signs look as though they’ll get along just fine off the pitch, too.
Darwin welcomes his new partner
It was great to see Gakpo settling into his new surroundings yesterday. Liverpool badly need him to hit the ground running at Anfield.
To see him so close with Darwin on day one was a little bit of a surprise, though. The two look friends of many years in the pictures, not two people just now meeting.
As well as early signs of a potential on-pitch rapport, it also speaks to Nunez’s comfortability at Liverpool. He’s only just arrived himself and he’s already welcoming new players.
Elsewhere in training, Gakpo looked fully focused as he set out trying to impress his new teammates.
Coming across as an easy-going but incredibly driven young man, the 23-year-old will no doubt be relishing the challenge.
It’s now all up to Jurgen Klopp as to whether we see Gakpo at all tomorrow. This time last year, the FA Cup gave Liverpool fans their first glimpse of Luis Diaz.
From his cameo against Cardiff City at Anfield, it was love at first sight for The Kop.
Nunez’s success story at Liverpool has been a little more of a slow burner. But he’s getting there too. Hopefully with Gakpo now added to the mix, we can see the start of a long and fruitful partnership between the forwards.
