Report: Liverpool make contact with agents in attempt to sign 'extraordinary' £35m midfielder
Liverpool want Teun Koopmeiners and have now contacted the representatives of the Atalanta midfielder to try and gauge interest in a move.
That’s according to Tutto Atalanta over in Italy, who claim that Liverpool are intensifying their interest in signing Koopmeiners.
It’s claimed that Liverpool have made contact with Koopmeiners’ agency Wasserman, making their interest in a deal known.
Jurgen Klopp is allegedly a huge fan of Koopmeiners and Liverpool are now making moves to try and snap him up.
iNews claimed just a few days ago Liverpool have been watching Koopmeiners closely ahead of a possible move.
A January deal isn’t expected but Liverpool are seemingly positioning themselves for a summer deal, if these reports from Italy are true.
It’s added that Atalanta wouldn’t even sit at the table to negotiate for anything less than €40million (£35million), just 18 months since paying around €12million (£10.5million) for the Dutchman.
Reports recently have suggested that Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders is having an increasing influence on the Reds and their transfer business.
A Dutch coach who learned his trade in Portugal, Lijnders has overseen the moves to sign Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez from Porto and Benfica respectively.
Liverpool’s latest signing is a Dutch star in Cody Gakpo and another Netherlands international could be on the way in Koopmeiners.
Liverpool also have Virgil van Dijk in their back line and are maybe missing Dutch star Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield.
That’s something Koopmeiners could do whilst adding to the Dutch flavour emerging at Anfield.
Koopmeiners has shown that he can dictate from deep or play as a box-to-box midfielder, though maybe doses’t have the mobility of Wijnaldum.
Lijnders surely knows plenty about Koopmeiners and having been hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by Atalanta hero Domenico Progna, Liverpool could be onto something special here.
