'Totally wrecked' - Sofyan Amrabat claim made amid Liverpool transfer links

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Fiorentina midfielder and Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat.

Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Italiano has explained why reported Liverpool transfer target Sofyan Amrabat is “totally wrecked” after the World Cup.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Morocco international. Those rumours intensified during the tournament in Qatar thanks to Amrabat’s performances for his country.

As well as Liverpool, the likes of Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest in the player. It remains to be seen whether Fiorentina will do any business for their star midfielder in the January transfer window.

Amrabat helped Morocco reach the semi-final of the World Cup, but lost out to France. Then in the third/fourth place play-off, Morocco lost to Croatia.

Now Italiano has claimed that Amrabat has retired to Fiorentina “totally wrecked” after the World Cup. The Serie A club faced Sassuolo on Saturday, but the boss opted not to use Amrabat and instead left him as an unused substitute.

Explaining the current state of Amrabat after his return from the World Cup, Italiano explained why the midfielder is not yet ready to play after featuring heavily for his country.

“Amrabat arrived from the World Cup totally wrecked, he needs time to calm down,” Italiano is quoted saying by Football Italia.

“He finished that tournament with pain-killing injections allowing him to even play. He’s still carrying issues from that, had only four training sessions with us and he himself confirmed to me he can’t play 90 minutes.

“I could’ve put him on today, but I didn’t want to risk it. When he is back to 100 per cent, he will be a real added bonus for us.”
