Report: Chelsea want ‘magic’ player to be Enzo Fernandez’s midfield partner at Stamford Bridge

Reports have claimed that Chelsea are hopeful that N’golo Kante can be Enzo Fernandez’s midfield partner at Stamford Bridge.

According to The Guardian, the club are hopeful that the midfielder will be back to his best when he finally returns from injury in a few weeks’ time.

It has been an awfully long time since the 31-year-old has been seen for the club.

He fell injured in the second game of the season against Tottenham, and he has not been seen on the pitch in nearly half a year.

However, in some much-needed good news for Graham Potter, the Frenchman was back in first team training earlier this week.

While it is still likely to be a few weeks until he features for the club again, the signs are undoubtedly positive as he approaches his return.

The manager has been struggling to find a suitable partner for Fernandez since the 22-year-old joined the club for a British transfer record fee.

Chelsea want Kante alongside Fernandez

So far, he has played alongside Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and a returning Mateo Kovacic.

None of the players have helped bring the best out of the World Cup winner since he joined on deadline day last month.

The Guardian have claimed that Chelsea may be hopeful that Kante is the answer to that specific problem.

A defensive-minded midfielder is certainly something that is required to help Fernandez, however there will be questions over whether that profile accurately defines Kante.

There may be hopes for him to play alongside Denis Zakaria before his loan spell comes to an end, with his future beyond this season uncertain.

Other than that, the club may look to go back into the transfer market at the end of the season with a midfielder in mind.
